Vogue Hat
I knit up the cover hat from the new Vogue hat book, finished it in just a few days.
I tried to get my daughter to model for me last weekend, but she was not cooperating. I used some Koigu KPPM yarn that I had in my stash. I was not liking it as well on the top where the rounds were very short, and a bit of pooling happened, but by the time that I got to the band edge, the colors were blending together beautifully. Blocking it out on a plate gave it the correct shape.
Pattern: Sunflower Medallion Beret
Pattern Source: The Ultimate Hat book by Vogue Knitting
Yarn: Koigu KPPM
Needles: US 4
Date Started: 10/29/12
Date Finished: 11/1/12
Finished Dimensions: Women’s size medium

I love it–your talents always amaze me. I think that if your daughter does not want to model then she should not be the recipient of your talent and hard work (LOL)!

Hi there! I love your version of this hat. I’m currently knitting it and I’m stumped at the headband. How did you knit back and forth on the circulars to complete the headband? I understand adding the 30 stitches on each side for the bow…it’s when I get to knitting back and forth in garter that has me stumped, especially since I’m on circulars! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Debbie

Debbie, When you cast on the extra stitches, you go from knitting in the round, to just knitting back and forth. Just cast on, and knit each row. You will have little tabs that you then use to tie the hat with. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the wonderful compliment. This is such a cute hat, and the main reason that I purchased the book.

Can you help me understand the count on this pattern. After casting on 8 stitches row one in the book says YO, K1 repeat and end with 16 stitches. I only end up with 12. What am I doing wrong? It only gets progressively worse with each row.

You are essentially doubling your stitches in the first row. YO, Ki and repeat those 2 until the end if the round and you have 16 sts. I hope that this helpsM good luck, it is a fun hat.

I am trying to knit this adorable hat…I’ve ripped it out 3 or 4 times…Now, I’m to the band, and am totally confused. The cast on 30 sts, knit 30sts…does it mean you only knit the CO 30? After that, it says K8, K2 tog around…that would be the entire hat, right? I just don’t get it…In the above question from Debbie, it looks like you’re saying CO 30 on each side? That would be on each circular? If you respond, thanks in advance…..I’m not giving up on this hat. lol
